Volunteering Opportunities

We've got various volunteering opportunities at Crafting4Good, from sorting donations, packing up Community Bundles and helping with eBay to virtual volunteering from home.

Wakefield (UK) residents can also earn rewards every time they volunteer through Citizen Coin.

Not a Wakefield resident?  You can still earn Citizen Coins and spend them when visiting Wakefield.

Crafting4Good CIC supports mental health through creativity. We have received funding to help sort through a large backlog of donated art and craft materials, for distribution to community groups and organisations or generating an income on eBay.  This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Levelling Up, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire.

Our Volunteering Opportunities

1. Art & Craft Donation Sorting

Earn: 2 Citizen Coin (cc)

Where: Thornes Park, Wakefield WF2 8QZ

How Long: 3 hours, regular or one-off

Requirements: OK with physical work, no experience required

Why: We're looking for volunteers to help sort art and craft donations ready for eBay and Community groups.

What Will I Do?

This is a physically demanding role, with lifting and moving, walking to the toilets in the main building and an uphill walk to reach us unless you drive (ample parking).

  • Warehouse-type work in a small workshop (dusty, drafty etc.)
  • Sort through boxes and bags of art, craft, textile and haberdashery donations to source items for eBay and Community groups.
  • Unpacking boxes and bags that have been in storage

2. Art & Craft Donation Organising

Earn: 2 Citizen Coin (cc)

Where: Unity Hall & Business Centre, Westgate, Wakefield WF1 1EP

How Long: 3 hours a week, regular 

Requirements: Enjoys organising, art and craft knowledge welcome but not required

Why: We're looking for volunteers to help organise pre-sorted art and craft donations ready for distribution to Community groups and for eBay

What Will I Do?

- You will help curate Community bundles
- Put away and organise eBay stock from pre-sorted art, craft, textile and haberdashery donations - this is where knowledge and expertise is valuable!

 3. eBay Assistants

Earn: 2 Citizen Coin (cc)

Where: Unity Hall & Business Centre, Westgate, Wakefield WF1 1EP

How Long: 3 hours a week, regular

Experience: eBay experience is very welcome, but not required

Why: We're looking for volunteers to help with listing, picking and packing for our eBay sales.

What Will I Do?
Working with our Volunteer Coordinators you could do one or more of the following, and training can be provided online and/or face-to-face:

- Take photographs of items to put on eBay
- Research items and prices
- Help with listing items onto eBay
- Support staff with picking, packing and shipping of customer orders
- Customer service emails where appropriate
- Help with stock-taking
- Help with sorting items to go on eBay
- You may also choose to learn further digital skills if interested, to support this role and any others in future

4. Skill up! Digital Assistants - Remote

Earn: 2 Citizen Coin (cc)

Where: Online - Remote - Volunteer from Home WF1 1EP

How Long: 3 hours/As and when

Prerequisites: Must be a Wakefield (UK) resident (whilst we test) and have internet access you don't mind using

Experience:  All abilities needed to test within Google Classroom

Why: Help test a new Virtual Classroom to teach digital skills and wellbeing/resilience habits.  You will be helping to develop "Skill Up!" a digital learning resource for people to improve their skills and resilience, with a view to being able to volunteer or work from home in future.

What Will I Do?
You could do one or more of the following, with training and communication being provided online:

- General testing within the Google Classroom, making sure things work
- Testing our website integration with Classroom
- Try courses to make sure they work as expected
- Provide feedback, including online via Google Meet
- Learn new skills on the way!
