📖You will receive a summary report of your own personal character strengths
💪 Knowing your strengths can help you in challenging times, and job interviews!
⚠️ Don't use your real name but if you are a Volunteer please indicate that e.g. "PJB Vol"
⚠️ We don’t do anything with your results except maybe use them in anonymous summary charts 📊📈
⚠️ This is free to do, but you will probably see offers of upgrading by the VIA institute who created the survey - the basic 24 strengths report is fine for this task and you do not need to pay anything more (however, if you did want to upgrade and buy the full, in-depth report we can do that for you too, which might be especially relevant if you are working with our Art Therapist on group art therapy or journaling for example)

Knowing the strengths of a person is about what is strong within you, not what is wrong with you. Humans tend to focus on what we can't do, what we lack, what we're no good at, what our weaknesses are, what are failings and shortcomings are, and then being afraid to try things and thrive.
Positive psychology on the other hand, is about thriving through knowing 'what's strong' inside you - it doesn't mean ignoring the negative, or toxic positivity where everything has to be bright, happy and cheery all the time and being left with the feeling that if you can't manage that, if you can't maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity then you've failed, again.
Instead, acknowledge all those things but don't dwell on what's wrong...know your strengths and use them. Your top 5 strengths are what you find effortless, it's just 'you', who you are and you're energised when using them. However this doesn't mean that the ones lower down on the list, especially the last few closer to number 24, are your 'weaknesses'. There are no weaknesses in a list of strengths: the ones towards the end of the list are strengths that you maybe don't use as much, that you can practise using more, but they are still your 'strengths'.
24 strengths in your own personal toolkit to call on when needed.
Knowing the strengths of a person helps us to make your volunteering experience better.
This is why taking the VIA Character Survey is the first foundation class in our Skill Up! Classroom for volunteers.
We believe knowing your own personal strengths forms the bedrock of 'you' and your approach to life, your potential for growth, how you might deal with tasks, any challenges and your overall resilience.
⚠️ You do not have to share your strengths with us but it benefits both you and us if you choose to.
